Our Moon Paperweight has been a popular item, and includes generous amounts of Phosphorous powder for the glow in the dark feature.   Each Paperweight is handmade one by one, but all include various amounts of glow powder making each paperweight unique.  We've had a few owners contact us about the glow intensity, and their concerns were resolved with these facts:

  • The more intense light you expose to the paperweight, the more intense the powder will glow.  It can only return a fraction the intensity of light that you've exposed it to.
  • The darker the room, the brighter the glow will appear (even though it is giving off the same amount of glow intensity in a brighter room).
  • Glass has some light filtering properties, so they will not glow as intensely as plastic glow products such as popular ceiling stars, or glowing ink on apparel.
  • We suggest that you expose the paperweight to either a UV or Blacklight to view the effects instantly, or even full sunlight and then bring it to your darkest room.
  • The image we've captured of the Moon Glowing was with high intensity light exposure, and taken in a pitch black dark room.
  • See some of our production photos, including a bag of glow powder just taken from the sunlight, and placed on a shelf in the hot shop.
We hope this helps explain what to expect from our popular Moon Paperweight.  As much as we'd like it to illuminate like the real Moon in the sky, glass making does have its limitations, which we like to call character!  Please enjoy!
